15th Day – 27th July 1957
We left Grantham about 8.45 a.m. and pushed on to Selby where we had morning coffee in the Landesborough Hotel then we went on and about 1 o’clock we bought tea and sandwiches from a pull-up on the moors for our lunch, and carried on through to Carlisle where it took us over an hour to get through there was so much traffic.
We pushed on into Scotland and I phoned home from Lockerbie to tell them that we would soon be home, however when we got to the summit at Beattock the car broke down and we had to get a tow by a big lorry to Crawford when an Austin Garage sorted the car in about ½ hour. We arrived home about 9 o’clock.
The weather was very changeable but we had lots of rain, ‘specially when we broke down when it absolutely poured down.
