I want to make it as interesting as I can and illustrations & photos will make all the difference.
Have put some more photos in the headers - I think it's a bit confusing when they're all the same. There (hopefully) will be photos to go with the stories/blogs too.

This morning, the news that 31% of university degree subjects have been cut in England since 2006. With that and fees tripling this year, I'm sad that there's no proper investment in our young people.
I googled Women's Studies and couldn't find a single University with it as a named subject. Maybe it wouldn't matter if we had gained equality but sadly that's not the case and, with the majority of local authority job cuts affecting women and the cutting of working families tax credits to anone working less than 24 hours, it looks like we're going backwards. Last night I've typed up some more of Eleanor's diary and sent a message in the hope that I can track down one or two photos to go with the blog. Fingers crossed.
Day job today but I managed a few hours this evening adding to my file of newspaper articles on Helen Barton, Queen of Scottish Orators.
I've got so much material about Mrs. Barton now that it's hard to know how to condense it all down for the website. It should be easy with Eleanor's Journal because I'm only putting down what she wrote. With Helen, I'm going to have to pick out what's relevant to you and write it in a way that entertains - hope my creative writing skills are up to it ! Had coffee with a friend this morning who may become a contributor with a series of postcards from a great aunt. My fingers are crossed. Eleanor's Travel Journal was written during holidays taken between 1957 and 1969 with her husband Alex and other people. Eleanor and Alex travelled across Europe with friends during the Glasgow Fair fortnight and the diaries give an insight into what it was like. In particular, Eleanor commented on the food, the prices, the hotels and the weather.
As this site is being "launched" on the first of March, the first entry will go in then and I expect to add to the blog every 3 or 4 days. I'm enjoying the journals and hope you do too. This weekend I've finally started typing up Eleanor's Travel Journal and have set up the History Woman Website.
Now I just need to get some stories into the website and the blog so that I can "launch" in time for Women's History Month in March. Eleanor's Travel Journal will be a regular feature of the blog. The website is live already so if anyone out there stumbles across it before March then welcome to the History Woman website and blog. Hope you enjoy it. :) So, this is my first stab at blogging. Hope you'll all bear with me as I get the hang of it.
Above all, I hope The History Woman website and blog will find some interested viewers (or readers or followers) Wish me luck ! |
