Witherington was born in Paris to British parents and fled Paris after the German invasion in 1940. She returned as an agent in September 1943, and was instrumental in disrupting the railways and overseeing the surrender of German troops.
Witherington was awarded the CBE, Military MBE and Legion d'Honneur.
