DIARY OF TRIP ABROAD 1957
1ST DAY – SAT. JULY 13TH
We left home at 5.45 a.m., made very good time and passed through Carlisle about 8.15 a.m. Stopped at Bridge House Hotel, Catterick, at 10.30 a.m. for coffee. Carried on at very good pace till hold up at Doncaster. It took us 1 hour to get through same. Ate Hard Boiled eggs while in traffic jam. Had great difficulty in getting after-noon tea but finally managed it in “White Heather” Restaurant in Stamford at 3.45 p.m. Travelled on through London to Chatham where we had dinner at 8.15 p.m. Carried on and arrived at Dover at 10.45 p.m. very tired. Had cup of tea then had a short walk round before going to bed.
The weather was very wet in Glasgow and all the way to Carlisle but improved in England. Dover has had no rain.
